Book On Xavier Now Sold At Amazon.com
May 11, 2011
“School On The Hill,” a book about Xavier High School, is now available for sale exclusively at Amazon.com. The book’s author, writer-photographer Floyd K. Takeuchi, launched the Amazon.com edition earlier this year. In doing so, he was able to lower the price of the book to $35. It is also possible to get free shipping through Amazon.com. “School On The Hill” can be ordered through this link: Order “School On The Hill”
The book has been selling well among alumni groups, in particular. The FOX-Palau chapter is selling “School On The Hill” as part of its fund-raising activities. Floyd, who was recently in Palau for a project, spoke to about 40 Xavier alumni about his book. If other FOX chapters are interested in selling “School On The Hill” as part of their fund-raising program, they should contact Floyd by email. An email form is available at Floyd’s Web site, www.floydtakeuchi.com.

[Gallery 1 not found]Dear friends of Xavier,
All of us here on campus wish you a very Blessed and Happy Easter Season full of life and hope for the future, thanks to Jesus our Lord, Risen for us.
The end of the school year is upon us. A very busy three weeks remain to finish classes, review for finals, prepare exams and administer them. Then there are the grading of papers and exams and profile grades, culminating in the graduation of our seniors on May 27th. For some reason this semester has gone by very quickly. One of the highlights was the annual Track and Field Day games (see photo gallery below) for all the high schools of Chuuk lagoon. Spirits were high on campus long before the events, but increased all the more the day of the games and the celebration of the outcome which carried over into the following week.
Xavier came in 2nd overall which is a great improvement over last year. Our athletes performed very well indeed and basked in the adulation of their adoring fans among the student body! We now have a number of new trophies for our trophy case!
Soon after that, the pressure was on the Drama Gatorz to get their act(s) together for the school’s musical production of Rogers and Hammerstein’s The King and I, which was a real hit and enjoyed by all. We have a few really good thespians among the student body who will be returning next year, we hope, to try their hand at another grand production.
I am happy to announce that Fr. Rich McAuliff, SJ, who has been on a well-deserved sabbatical this past year, will be returning as Director in early July. It has been my privilege to sit in for him
while he was away but the school needs his vision and guiding hand to continue the initiatives he began before his sabbatical, and more importantly, to lead the school through the upcoming and most important process of re-accreditation for another 6 year period. We are proud of Xvier’s accreditation these past six years, but we cannot rely on past success – we must continue to improve our ability to carry out our mission, and Fr. Rich will make sure this happen.
Your support in all this is vital, of course. We need our alumni and parents and friends from all over to assist the faculty and staff in this process over the next 11 months. The work to be done in writing up reports and bringing in the WASC team next March for their visitation of the school, will be costly. Your prayers and monetary contributions are needed, and some of you who are able will be invited to participate in the process of reviewing Xavier’s policies and programs for the benefit of the visiting WASC team.
Meanwhile, we live and labor in hope for the needed resources Xavier will require in the next fiscal year beginning June 1st. We are still hoping to receive from the FSM government, our portion of aid allotted for this year. Without it we will be hard pressed to make ends meet this summer. God has been good to us as always. A good number of you friends of Xavier have made donations of various kinds this past year for which we are extremely grateful and we ask God’s blessings upon you for your sacrifices. We hope and pray more generous souls will join in supporting Xavier this coming year since our expenses seem to rise each year, but our income does not keep pace. We hope to end this year without a deficit, but it will be close.
Please pray for us as we do for you!
Fr. Dave Andrus, SJ
