Xavier High School Students
Upon Graduation Will Be:
I. Competent
By the time of their graduation, Xavier students
have exhibited an appropriate mastery of the basic tools of learning.
They have the skills and curiosity to further explore ideas and
issues. Graduates have the ability to apply their intellectual
skills for more advanced levels of learning and are prepared to
pursue postsecondary education. Xavier graduates have recognized
the importance of academic integrity.
Xavier students have:
1. learned to communicate effectively through comprehending, speaking,
reading, and writing English.
2. begun to grow in an awareness of historical and current social
issues both in Micronesia and in the world and have begun to realize
the implications of these issues on various communities.
3. developed the ability to think logically and critically, to
recognize patterns, and apply mathematical concepts to everyday
situations.
4. developed proficiency conducting scientific investigations
and analyzing and reporting results.
5. begun to understand the impact of technology on the future
and gained skills to utilize new resources.
6. had the opportunity for competence in nonacademic areas, including
athletics and creative arts.
7. been prepared to be a qualified applicant to competitive colleges
and universities.
II. Conscientious
By the time of their graduation, Xavier students
are accustomed to the habit of reflection and have developed moral
reasoning skills which are guided by a fundamental orientation
towards the Christian call set forth by the life and mission of
Jesus Christ.
Xavier students have:
1. learned how to discern what is right, good, and true and they
take initiative to act on the results of their discernment process.
2. learned to open themselves to new experiences and have gained
confidence in their ability to integrate these new discoveries
into their own cultural backgrounds and value sets.
3. developed an accurate view of themselves—recognizing
both their talents and limitations.
4. experienced the benefits of discipline in creating a sense
of order in their lives.
5. learned to be faithful in fulfilling responsibilities.
III. Compassionate
By the time of their graduation, Xavier students
have learned to respond to others in greatest need by placing
their talents and skills at the service of their family, local
community, the Church, and their country. Xavier graduates walk
with others to empower them, in solidarity and empathy, and manifest
a preferential option for the poor.
Xavier students have:
1. developed the habit of putting themselves
in the place of others.
2. formed friendships with those of different cultural and religious
backgrounds.
3. begun to understand some of the demands of community building
at a local, national, and global level.
4. begun to see the importance of their influence on public policy
by making a positive contribution to its formation and by critiquing
policy already in effect.
5. been prepared to enter the broader community as influential
leaders and agents of positive social change.
